The Fountain City Arts Festival Month-Long Celebration of the Arts highlighting literary arts will kick off March 2 with an exhibition at the Prattville Creative Arts Center. The celebration also will include a writing contest, a concert, a play, a children’s book arts workshop, an honoree dinner, and our annual Fountain City Arts Festival.

The Essay Writing Contest is open to all high school students in Autauga County. The Grand Prize winner’s photo will appear in Potential Magazine and all winners will be invited to an awards ceremony on March 10 with guest speaker/author Roger Reid. Entries for this contest are due February 24.

Imagery: Literature in Art will open March 2 with a reception from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Prattville Creative Arts Center and Gallery, 342 Chestnut Street. This exhibition will feature works by local artists referencing literature in various ways. The show will run through April 30.

On March 12 the Prattville Pops will host their annual March Madness concert at the Pratt Park Amphitheatre at 3:00 p.m. This concert is unique in that all of the pieces performed are marches and this year they are all marches by “March King” John Philip Sousa.

Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs will be playing at the Way Off Broadway Theatre beginning March 23. This play will be directed by Blair Dyson and is presented by a special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Brighton Beach Memoirs will run through April 9. Tickets are available online at cc.prattvilleal.gov.

The Prattville Creative and Performing Arts Council will honor best-selling author Ace Atkins on April 29 at the Marriott Legends at Capitol Hill. Ace is a talented writer and former football player for the Auburn Tigers. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased by calling 334-595-0854.

The 12th Annual Fountain City Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Pratt Park in Downtown Prattville, Alabama. This fine arts festival features an Artists Village with a variety of hand crafted and custom designed items from fine art paintings, to woodcarvings, photography, clay sculpture, handmade soap, and much more. A Writers Village will feature local and regional writers with books for children, books for adults, books of photography, and everything in between. A Traditional Crafts area will feature demonstrations of basket weaving, gemstone polishing, fiber arts, and more.

In the Children’s Creative Canopy, children will create free hands-on art projects both collaboratively and individually with artist Charlie Lucas, photographer Keith Farrar, and members of the Prattauga Art Guild.

Festival entertainment will include performances by Bama Breeze, Gypsy Cornbread, interactive children’s entertainer Sir Crazy Pants, the Prattville Pops, Community Chorus, and the Way Off Broadway Theatre. Make a day of it and grab something to eat in the food vendor area and have a picnic by the pond after the kids have had their fun on the inflatables or the playground. Admission to the Festival is free and this event is open to the public.

The Fountain City Arts Festival and accompanying events are sponsored by the City of Prattville and have been made possible, in part, by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Prattville Service League.
