GARBAGE COLLECTION

 The Sanitation Department manages the collection of household garbage throughout the city and annexed areas. Our Clean City Professionals collect an average of 225-250 tons of waste each week.

The City of Prattville provides each household with a 95-gallon blue garbage bin for bagged household garbage collection. Household garbage is collected at the curb of each residence in the city once per week from the city-issued garbage bin and is intended for bagged garbage only. Per ordinance, the garbage bin must be placed at the curb, by 7:00 a.m., on the day of collection and must be 4 ft. clear from any obstruction that would prevent the sanitation equipment from collecting safely and efficiently. To avoid sickness and/or injury, our Clean City Professionals will not collect any garbage placed on the ground beside the garbage bin. 

Any excess household garbage that will not fit into your garbage bin can be disposed of at the *Recycle Center located at 530 Doster Rd from Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m*. *You must provide proof of residency with a City of Prattville Water Bill.

Sanitation Collection Guidelines:

• Items should not be placed in the gutter, on the sidewalk, or in the street. 
• Items should be placed at least 4 ft. away from any objects that prevent proper and safe operation of the sanitation truck or equipment (vehicle, utility pole, mailbox, tree, etc.). 
• City does not pick up excessive construction materials (lumber, sheet rock, brick, metal roofing, concrete, etc.). 
• Licensed companies doing work (cutting trees, laying carpet, etc.) are responsible for removing debris. The load will be subject to a commercial fee if left on the curb for collection by the City. 
• City does not pick up dirt, stumps, tires or trees. 
• City ordinance states all leaves, grass clippings, and pine straw must be in bags or boxes. Ordinance 66-387*
• Garbage cans should be pulled back to the residence the evening of collection.
• If these guidelines are not met, the Sanitation Department will issue a Sanitation Notice to the residence.

Billing Services Per Ordinance 2026-013:

Sanitation Service in the City of Prattville costs $26.00 per month, and although the service is managed and performed by the Sanitation Department, it is billed by the Water Works Board as part of the monthly water bill for each household.

Residential charges:

(a) $26.00 per month, effective October 1, 2026, for the first container.

(b) There will be an additional $20.00 charge per month per container, for any occupant placing two or more City-issued containers on the curb or street. (Subsequent container(s) initial fee to be determined by the Sanitation Director annually.)

Business establishment charges:

(a) $26.00 per month effective October 1, 2026, for each container.

(b) Business establishments requiring bulk collection of containers, crates, baskets, etc., that would exceed one-fourth of a trailer load, approximately five cubic yards or more, or any bulk waste requires a special collection. The business shall call the Sanitation Department to schedule the special collection pickup to be charge based on the current rate of disposal. This rate will be determined annually by the Sanitation Director. Where the quantity hauled is less than a truckload, the collection charge will be prorated.

(c) $150.00 per month for each 8-yard cardboard recycling dumpster for private business use.

Senior Citizens Services:

Senior Citizen Discounts

Eligible senior citizens may qualify for a discount on garbage service.

• Residents 65 and older who live on a fixed income and are not gainfully employed may receive a $2 monthly discount from the prevailing garbage service fee. Application for Senior Residential Garbage Discount.
• Households whose sole source of income is Social Security benefits may also apply for an exemption from the fee for one trash container. Proof of income is required, and the exemption must be requested each year. Visit Autauga County's website to fill out the Social Security Collection Exemption.

Door Side Collection Service

The Door Side Collection Service for household garbage is intended for our elderly citizens or our citizens with disabilities.  This service is also available for citizens that need temporary assistance during medical recovery from an illness, injury or surgery that limits their ability to place the can at the curb.
