FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE

 

The Prattville Police Department's Firearms Training Unit offers a Firearms Safety & Familiarization Course for civilians in the River Region. The class course covers the following: safety, weapons handling, cleaning, shooting fundamentals, methods of carry, types of ammo, how to protect your home, and more. The classes run on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Instructors will be available at 8:30 a.m. to address registration issues and questions. Should the need arise for a rain date, one of the instructors will contact you. 

Course Cost: $10.00 (The nominal fee covers the cost of targets.)

Class Size: 12 students

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 yrs old to attend
  • Must pass a criminal history check
  • You do not have to be a Prattville resident to attend
  • Concealed Carry permit encouraged but not required

Items to bring:

  • A weapon ( Handgun only), at least ONE magazine, a minimum of 50 rounds ammunition (NO reloads)
  •  belt, holster (REQUIRED)
  • Dress appropriately (No open toe shoes or loose collar shirts) 

 

REGISTRATION: To attend, you must complete the registration form below. Once you have successfully registered, an instructor will contact you with details of the class curriculum, directions to the firing range, and contact information. A liability release form will be required from each participant on the day of class and collected before the session begins. Please remember this is a familiarization course only this is not for qualifying. 

If you are borrowing a weapon, you must make those arrangements before the class and will still need to provide your ammunition. If you have questions about your weapon or the caliber of your weapon, contact the Firearms Training Unit instructors at 595-0291.
