Michael Whaley
Michael P. Whaley was elected to the City Council In 2024. He and his wife, Leslie, grew up in Prattville. They have three children, Noah, Maddie, and Jacob, who are homeschooled. Noah, graduated from Ezekiel Academy, a homeschool cover school, in 2022. After graduating form Marbury High School, Michael went to work for the City of Prattville, where he worked fifteen months in the Park’s and Recreation department and then more than twenty-five years in the Fire Department. He retired in January 2021, at the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. While working for the Fire Department, He obtained certifications of Firefighter II, Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, and numerous inspection and technical rescue certifications, he also attended H. Council Trenholm Technical College, where he earned his education as a Paramedic and obtained a Fire Science Degree from Columbia Southern University. He still maintains a current Nation Registry of EMT’s Paramedic Certification and Alabama Paramedic License.
Michael and his family are members of Glynwood Baptist Church. Leslie is a charter member, and Michael has faithfully served for more than twenty years. He serves as a Deacon and Men’s Ministry Leader. He has taught Sunday School, served on the Personnel Committee, and served in many other capacities. Michael and Leslie are licensed foster parents with Alabama DHR and foster through the Alabama Baptist Children's Home. They currently have two placements, with one of them in a foster-to-adopt status.
Michael has volunteered as a basketball, soccer, and baseball coach in the city youth programs. He has served on the Prattville Board of Zoning Adjustments for 15 years. He volunteers for many community events and is a certified member of the Autauga Baptist Disaster Relief unit.
