WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT
The Public Works Wastewater Division protects both human health and the environment through efficient, cost effective collection, and treatment of its wastewater; to stay within regulation of both EPA and ADEM; and to promote economic development within the city of Prattville. With the user base of approximately 11,000 residential connections and 700 business connections, the City of Prattville Wastewater Division operates two Grade-3 wastewater treatment plants. The Autauga Creek Plant has a design capacity of 4 million gallons of wastewater per day, and the renovated plant, Pine Creek Clean Water Facility, has the design capacity of 3 million gallons per day.

Waterwater Treatment
Any wastewater that comes from any homes, businesses and other facilities is directed to one of two Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP). The job of the WWTP’s are to remove any harmful pollutants from the wastewater. The water containing the pollutants must be reclaimed to very specific limits that are provided by The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).

The WWTP’s operate in basically the same way, they remove pollutants through several basic steps:
- The sewer collection system collects and delivers wastewater to a WWTP
- Large, inorganic solids are removed with Bar Screens
- Smaller inorganic solids are settled out and removed with a grit collector
- Suspended organic solids are consumed by natural micro-organisms in either a Vertical Loop Reactor or Aeration Basins
- Dead and excess micro-organisms are settled out and removed in Final Clarifiers
- This excess is then turned into a Class A bio-solid that can be used as a soil conditioner/fertilizer
- Remaining harmful micro-organisms are eliminated through disinfection
- The clean, clear reclaimed water is released back into a local waterway
