Mark Thompson
Chief of Police
Chief Mark Thompson started his law enforcement career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department in 1978 as a Jail Officer. From there he progressed through the ranks serving in positions in Court Security, Patrol, Investigations, Narcotics, and SWAT. Chief Thompson finished his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department at the rank of Captain / Division Commander over the Special Operations / Investigations Division. In 2013, Chief Mark Thompson was appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Prattville. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 178 and served as the President of the Alabama Tactical Officers Association from 2007-2009.
The Departments Drug Enforcement Unit, Special Operations Team, and Community / School Relations Unit fall under the direct supervision of the Chief and Assistant Chief of Police.

Jeff Hassell
Assistant Chief of Police
Asst. Chief Jeff Hassell joined the Prattville Police Department in 1996 and has served nearly three decades protecting our community. During this time, he has spent over 20 years serving different units within the Investigative Division, including narcotics, juvenile, and criminal investigations. Prior to achieving the rank of Asst. Chief in 2022, he commanded the Department’s Special Operations Team and the Criminal Investigations Division. Asst. Chief Hassell graduated from Faulkner University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 274.

Jeff Staggers
Major
Major Jeff Staggers joined the Prattville Police Department in 1999 and has over 25 years of service protecting the citizens of this community. During that time, he has served in the Patrol Division, Investigative Division to include juvenile and criminal investigations. After he achieved the rank of Captain in 2022, he served in the Administrative Division. He was appointed to the rank of Major in 2024. Major Staggers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice and Public Safety from Auburn University Montgomery.
Divisions

Patrol Division - Commanded by Captain Joshua Ingram
Captain Josh Ingram began his Law Enforcement career with the Prattville Police Department in 2006 as a Civilian Support Officer. After completing the Police Academy, he served as a Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer until being assigned to the Motorcycle/Traffic Unit where he served as an Accident Investigator for seven years and during this time, he earned his certification as a Traffic Homicide Investigator. In 2016, Captain Ingram was promoted to Sergeant and continued to serve in the Patrol Division and Traffic Unit for the next four years. In 2020, Captain Ingram promoted to Lieutenant and served in the Patrol Division and Administrative Division. In 2025, he was appointed to the rank of Captain, commanding the Patrol Division in which he has served for the majority of his career. He is certified through the FBI as a Firearms Instructor and assists with departmental training as well as Civilian Firearms Safety Classes.
The Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as three (3) separate 8 hour shifts; 1st Shift (6am-2pm), 2nd Shift (2pm-10pm), 3rd Shift (10pm-6am). Each Shift is commanded by a Shift Lieutenant. The department’s Traffic Unit, Warrant Unit, and Domestic Violence Unit also function under the Patrol Division.

Criminal Investigations Division - Commanded by Steven Ashley
Captain Steven Ashley served in the United States Army from 2000 to 2005. During this time, Captain Ashley served in the the 3rd Infantry Division and completed two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He joined the Prattville Police Department in 2009. Captain Ashley has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Investigative Division, and Drug Enforcement Unit of the Prattville Police Department. He has been a member of the Prattville Police Department’s Special Operations Team for over ten years. In 2025, he took over as the Prattville Police Department’s Investigative Division Commander. Captain Ashley has obtained his Bachelor of Science in Public Safety and Criminal Justice from Amridge University and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 287.
The Criminal Investigations Division operates Monday – Friday from 7 a.m.-10 p.m., (excluding holidays) while maintaining a callout status for after hours, weekends, and holidays. The department’s Criminal Intelligence / Digital Forensics Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and Drone Unit also function under the Criminal Investigations Division.

Administrative Division - Commanded by Captain Donnie Walker
Captain Donnie Walker began his Law Enforcement career in 1996 with the Montgomery Police Department. In 2005, he joined the Prattville Police Department and has served in the Patrol Division, Traffic Unit, Community Relations Unit, and Training Coordinator/media Relations. Captain Walker currently commands the Administrative Division. Captain Walker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University.
The department’s Training Unit, Civilian Support Services Unit, and the Code Enforcement Unit function under the Administrative Division. The Training Unit is dedicated to providing training and development opportunities for all sworn officers, as well as sponsor training for other officers throughout the state. The Administrative Division operates Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., (excluding holidays).
