Command Staff

Chief Mark Thompson started his law enforcement career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department in 1978 as a Jail Officer. From there he progressed through the ranks serving in positions in Court Security, Patrol, Investigations, Narcotics, and SWAT. Chief Thompson finished his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department at the rank of Captain / Division Commander over the Special Operations / Investigations Division. In 2013, Chief Mark Thompson was appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Prattville. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 178 and served as the President of the Alabama Tactical Officers Association from 2007-2009.


The Departments Training Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, Special Operations Team, and Community / School Relations Unit fall under the direct supervision of the Chief and Assistant Chief of Police.

 
 
 
 

Asst. Chief Jeff Hassell joined the Prattville Police Department in 1996 and has served nearly three decades protecting our community. During this time, he has spent over 20 years serving different units within the Investigative Division, including narcotics, juvenile, and criminal investigations. Prior to achieving the rank of Asst. Chief in 2022, he commanded the Department’s Special Operations Team and the Criminal Investigations Division. Asst. Chief Hassell graduated from Faulkner University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 274.

 
 
 
 

Major James Harry joined the Prattville Police Department in 1998.  During his career, Major Harry served in the Patrol Division as a Traffic Homicide Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant.  Major Harry also served in the Investigative Division as an Investigator, Sergeant, and Lieutenant before being promoted to Captain.  Major Harry was appointed to his current position in October 2022 where he is currently in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Prattville Police Department.   

Divisions

Patrol Division - Commanded by Captain Nolan Watkins

Captain Nolan Watkins joined the Prattville Police Department in 1998. During his career, he has worked in the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division while promoting up through the ranks. In October of 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and currently serves as the Division Commander for the Patrol Division.


The Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as three (3) separate 8 hour shifts; 1st Shift (6am-2pm), 2nd Shift (2pm-10pm), 3rd Shift (10pm-6am). Each Shift is commanded by a Shift Lieutenant. The department’s Traffic Unit, Warrant Unit, and Domestic Violence Unit also function under the Patrol Division.

Criminal Investigations Division - Commanded by Captain Donnie Walker

Captain Donnie Walker began his Law Enforcement career in 1996 with the Montgomery Police Department.  In 2005, he joined the Prattville Police Department and has served in the Patrol Division, Traffic Unit, Community Relations Unit, and Training Coordinator/media Relations.  Captain Walker currently commands the Criminal Investigations Division.  Captain Walker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University.


The Criminal Investigations Division operates Monday – Friday from 7 a.m.-10 p.m., (excluding holidays) while maintaining a callout status for after hours, weekends, and holidays. The department’s Criminal Intelligence / Digital Forensics Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and Drone Unit also function under the Criminal Investigations Division.

Administrative Division - Commanded by Captain Jeff Staggers

Captain Jeff Staggers joined the Prattville Police Department in 1999.  He has served in the Patrol Division, Juvenile Investigations Division and Criminal Investigations Division.  He is currently assigned to the Administrative Division as a Captain.  Captain Staggers holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice and Public Safety from Auburn University at Montgomery. 


The department’s civilian Support Services Unit and the Code Enforcement Unit function under the Administrative Division. The Administrative Division operates Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., (excluding holidays).
