MARCUS JACKSON

City Council | District 2

In October of 2016, Marcus R. Jackson was elected to the Prattville City Council to represent citizens in District 2. District 2 holds a special place in his life because he was raised in this district by two loving parents.

Councilor Jackson is a proud product of the Autauga County school system. As a graduate of Prattville High School, Councilor Jackson served as his senior class president. He went on to attend Auburn University where he earned a bachelor's degree in management.  After his college graduation, Councilor Jackson worked in the corporate sector in Atlanta before returning to Prattville to work in education. Councilor Jackson has coached football with Prattville High School and Autaugaville High School during his 18 years as an educator in the classroom. He currently works as a behavioral coach with the Autauga County Board of Education and serves as a coach with the Prattville Junior High School Cats football team.

Councilor Jackson’s commitment to the youth of the River Region continues beyond his work in schools. For more than 20 years, he has mentored hundreds of young people through Brother2Brother, Sister2Sister, and Project Uplift. He also serves as a board member for Alabama E.D.G.E.--an innovative program that exposes young people to life and career skills in hands-on, real-world environments. Councilor Jackson participates as an advisor on the Prattville Junior High School Business Technology Advisory Council, Prattville Elementary School 21st Century Community Learning Center-Discovery DAZE’s Advisory Council, and the Autuaga County 4-H Advisory Council.

In 2020, Jackson identified a significant need in the community for even more youth and community outreach, so he co-founded the Marlon & Marcus Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in underserved communities, particularly his hometown. The foundation is rooted in service and seeks to empower young people through education, resources, and experiences.

Not only is Jackson active with the youth of the community, additionally he also actively participates on several committees to better the city in its entirety.  Jackson currently serves as the Chairperson of the Streets, Drainage and Lights Committee.  Jackson also serves on the Prattville Airport Authority Board, Public Works, Urban Management & Cemetery Committee and the Wastewater and Stormwater Committee.

Long before he became a humble public servant, Councilor Jackson dedicated not only his career, but his life to teaching children. He wants to teach children the value they bring not just to their communities, but their potential to do the same in the world. Hes been recognized for that enlightened service and work.  Serves as a member of The National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), Race, Equity, and Leadership (REAL) Council, and National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Committee.  The Autauga County Education Association honored Jackson with the Rookie Teacher Award in 2007 and Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition with the 2012 Service Organization of Character Award.  In 2019, Councilor Jackson graduated as a Certified Municipal Official by the Alabama League of Municipalities and Leadership Autauga County. He continues his community service and outreach through his membership in the Prattville Lions Club (Lions Club International).  He is a proud active member of the Pride of Jemison/Clanton Lodge #630 (Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge F&AM of Alabama).  In 2024, Jackson received the "King Legacy Advocate" Award in Community Service from Alpha Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated's Educational Foundation.

Councilor Jackson currently uses his seat on the council to advance his commitment to push for economic progress, to improve educational opportunities, to further youth outreach, and to build communal pride within the district. These components drive him to serve and work to make the “Preferred Community” an even better place.

He has a daughter, Danielle, that lives in Kennesaw, Georgia.
