November 3, 2014

The City of Prattville will join the American Legion Post 122, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1349, in sponsoring a wreath-laying ceremony at the Autauga County Courthouse at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 to officially mark Veterans Day.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month has a significant meaning," stated Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. "It means little to some, very much to others. The 3 elevens are a mental marker to help us remember November 11, 1918, the end of the war to end all wars. This is a time honored ceremony that other officials will follow just as I have in an effort to remind us of the Armistice of 1918 and the sacrifices paid by our veterans, past and present, to keep this nation free. It is our duty to REMEMBER them."

Mayor Gillespie extends an invitation to the public to attend this important event.

Adjusted Sanitation Schedule & Additional Drop-Off Locations

City offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th. No garbage or trash will be collected on this day. Tuesday and Wednesday household garbage routes will be collected on Wednesday, November 12th. No businesses will be collected on Wednesday. All business routes and regularly scheduled Thursday routes will be collected on Thursday, November 13th. Friday's garbage routes will be run as normally scheduled.

On Monday, November 10th, Sanitation will run normal Monday residential trash (yard debris) routes. Once Monday's routes are completed, crews will begin Tuesday routes. On Wednesday, November 12th, Sanitation crews will finish Tuesday routes and run normal Wednesday routes. On Thursday, November 13th, normal routes and any leftover uncompleted Wednesday trash routes will be collected. On Friday, November 14th, Sanitation crews will finish Thursday routes and run normal Friday routes.

We will have two (2) additional drop-off locations for garbage and trash prior to the holiday. The first is at the old Peoples Bank & Trust at the corner of Main Street and Glynwood Drive. The second location is in the D & J Auto Parts parking lot at 175 Highway 82. Trucks will be in place from 8 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, November 8th. We are providing this additional service on the Saturday prior to the holiday in order to decrease the amount of trash and garbage that will need to be collected on Wednesday through Friday after Veterans Day. Anything dropped at these two locations must be bagged for ease of handling.

If you have any questions or issues regarding Sanitation service, please direct those to Public Works Director Randy Lucas at (334) 595-0481.
