LPGA & Former Champions Returning to Prattville for Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic


PRATTVILLE, AL. – (August 26, 2014) – The top player in the world, Stacy Lewis, will be back as returning champion after the LPGA took a year off in Prattville. Lewis joins a field of 143 others to compete in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic Sept. 18 to 21, 2014. Joining Stacy Lewis will be three other former LPGA champions who have won on the Senator Course at RTJ at Capitol Hill: Lexi Thompson (2011), Katherine Hull Kirk of Australia (2010) and Maria Hjorth McBride of Sweden (2008). Lorena Ochoa won in Prattville in 2008 and 2009 but has retired from professional golf.

The international field includes several Americans ranked in the top 25 on the Rolex Women's Golf World Rankings. These include Michelle Wie (no. 6), Lexi Thompson (no. 7), Cristie Kerr (no. 11), Lizette Salas (no. 13), Angela Stanford (no. 13), Jessica Korda (no. 18) and Mo Martin (no. 24). Stacy Lewis, Jessica Korda and Michelle Wie have all won twice on the LPGA Tour in 2014. The field will be up to 144 players and currently has golfers from 21 countries.

Tournament Schedule

Monday, Sept. 15 – Qualifier for final two spots in tournament. Players arrive from Evian Championship in France. Media center opens at noon.

Tuesday, Sept. 16 – Champions Challenge at 10 a.m., followed by youth clinic (2,000 local students). Former champions from Prattville LPGA tournaments have been invited to participate in a unique tire/golf challenge in front of the clubhouse. Stacy Lewis will be available for interviews immediately following the competition. Practice day for players.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 – Pro-Am tournament all day. Player interviews TBD. Girls Golf event where LPGA players Brittany Lincicome and Julieta Granada will give a clinic for local girls and their mothers at 4:00 p.m. near the Media Center. The girls participating have already been selected.

Thursday, Sept. 18 – First round of the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. Live on Golf Channel 4 to 6 p.m. CST. While the players compete Yokohama Tire experts will be available for interviews on a variety of tire topics from tire safety and technology to cost savings tips.

Friday, Sept. 19 – Round two of Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. Live on Golf Channel 4 to 6 p.m. Yokohama Tire experts available for interviews.

Saturday, Sept. 20 – Round three of Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. This includes the top 70 plus ties from the first two days of competition. Live on Golf Channel from 4 to 6 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 21 – Final round of Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. Live on Golf Channel from 4 to 6 p.m. Final put putt should be just before 6:00 p.m.
