Prattville Mayor Jim Byard Announces Resignation

Prattville Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. announced today that he has accepted Governor-elect Robert Bentley’s appointment to his cabinet as the director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). Mayor Byard will officially step down from his elected position as Prattville’s chief executive officer at the close of business on Monday, January 17, 2011 and assume his new duties at ADECA on Tuesday, January 18.

“I have sincerely enjoyed serving the citizens of my hometown for the past 18 years; first as District 6 Councilmember, then as City Council President, and for the last 11 and a half years as Mayor,” said Byard. Our leadership team has accomplished much during that time, and I am proud of the way we worked together to move our city forward,” he continued.

“I am grateful for the confidence Governor-elect Bentley has placed in me with this appointment. As mayor, I am keenly aware of the vital role ADECA plays in assisting Alabama communities in providing basic, essential services to their citizens. I look forward to working with the dedicated men and women of ADECA as we help our state continue to grow and prosper,” Byard said.
