Group Health Insurance

The City of Prattville offers a comprehensive Group Health Plan for Regular Employees. Specific Plan Summaries are available for each benefit offered.

Who pays?

The City and the employees share in the costs. Employee premiums are deducted from the paycheck. Employee payroll deduction for single coverage is $60.00 per month, 2 person coverage is $218.00 per month, and family coverage is $233.00 per month.*

*Employees participating in the Wellness Premium Discount Program by completing an annual Health Risk Assessment will receive a $25.00 discount monthly.

The employee payroll deduction for single coverage dental base plan is $15.62 per month; dental max plan is $22.32 per month.
The employee payroll deduction for family coverage dental base plan is $44.64 per month; dental max plan is $63.74 per month.

When are you eligible?

Coverage is effective the first of the month following a 30 day waiting period for new hires. Late enrollees are subject to approval by the insurance company.

Group Life Insurance

All regular employees receive a life insurance policy. Employees with less than 10 years of service receive a $10,000.00 policy and employees with 10 years of service or more receive a $20,000.00 policy.

Who administers?

Lincoln Financial Group is the current administrator for the City of Prattville Group Life Insurance Plan.

Who pays?

The City pays for the employees group life as defined above.

When are you eligible?

Coverage is effective as of the first day of employment.

Retirement

Through the Retirement Systems of Alabama, an employee may retire if he/she has 25 years of retirement service, or is age 60 with 10 years of service with the Retirement Systems of Alabama.

Who Administers?

The Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA)

Who Pays?

The employee pays 5% of all gross income and the City provides a matching amount determined by the Retirement Systems of Alabama (Certified Fire and Police Officers pay 6% of all gross income.)

When are you eligible?

Mandatory enrollment for all regular employees as of the first day of employment.

Deferred Compensation (457 Plans)

Voluntary participation allows the employee to lower taxable income, and pay tax on the deferred income in the year of distribution. 457 plans are the Governmental version of 401K Plans.

Who administers?

The City of Prattville has 457 Plans though Nationwide, Valic Financial Advisors, and RSA-1.

Who pays?

The employee, up to the current allowable limits.

When are you eligible?

All regular employees are eligible as of the first day of employment.

Flexible Spending Account

Allows employees to lower their taxable income by placing certain insurance premiums under this plan. Also, offers unreimbursed medical/dental expense benefits, as well as daycare expense benefits.

Who administers?

Alliance Insurance Group

Who pays?

The employee and the City.

When are you eligible?

As of the effective date of medical/dental coverage for new enrollees, or as of the first date of the plan if used for daycare or unreimbursed medical/dental expenses.

Supplemental Insurance

Employees may obtain coverage for Cancer, Disability, Accident, and Life Insurance.

Who administers?

The City of Prattville offers payroll deduction for supplemental insurance though AFLAC and Lincoln Financial Group.

Who Pays?

The employee pays for all supplemental insurance coverage.

When are you eligible?

Upon purchasing coverage and meeting eligibility requirements.

Vacation Leave

Vacation leave is earned at the following accrual rates for regular full time employees.

  • Completed 1 year through 9 years accrues 80 hours (10 days) per year
  • 10 years through 15 years accrues 120 hours (15 days) per year
  • 16 years and over accrues 160 hours (20 days) per year

The maximum vacation leave that may be accrued is 360 hours for 8 hour shift employees.

Fire and Wastewater employees should consult the Policies and Procedures Manual for accrual rates for 12 and 24 hour shift employees.

Who pays?

The City pays for accrued leave time.

When are you eligible?

Upon completion of the first year of employment.

Sick Leave

Sick leave is earned at the rate of 80 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have option of receiving pay for accrued sick leave (one-half of accrual totals up to 360 hours) or converting the leave to service time. Fire and Wastewater employees should consult the Policies and Procedures manual for accrual rates for 12 and 24 hour shift employees.

The City pays for accrued sick leave.

When are you eligible?

Upon completion of the first pay period after hire date.

Holidays

Eleven paid holidays per year: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr/Robert E. Lee Birthday, President’s Day, National Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and one Floating Holiday to be used at the employees request with supervisor approval.

As of the first day of employment.
