This morning, Mayor Gillespie joined Governor Ivey, Chief Tony Harris, Senator Clyde Chambliss, and many others for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the US-82 widening project.
“Today is a momentous day! After more than 30 years of conversations, plans, and perseverance, we are finally standing at the threshold of a dream realized — the widening and reopening of the Highway 82 project.
This journey has not been easy, and it has certainly not been short. However, today, we celebrate the fruits of commitment, partnership, and vision. I want to extend my deepest thanks to Governor Kay Ivey and Senator Clyde Chambliss for their steadfast support and leadership. Your dedication has helped move this project from paper to pavement.
This road is more than concrete and asphalt—it represents progress, connectivity, and new opportunities for our region. While the final stretch will be open very soon, today marks the beginning of a better future for everyone who will travel this route,” said Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr.
