PRATTVILLE, Ala. — Way Off Broadway Theatre will host a special “Acting for the Camera” workshop on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prattville Cultural Arts Center. The class is open to participants of all ages and experience levels.
Led by industry professional Maggie Ballard, the workshop offers a unique opportunity for aspiring and experienced performers to gain real-world insight into acting for film and television.
With 17 years of experience behind the scenes, Ballard has worked on more than 50 films as an Assistant Director, building a career rooted in leadership, precision, and creative collaboration. She is a recipient of a Directors Guild award for her work as an assistant director on the Oscar-winning film Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele. Her additional credits include Hush, Gerald’s Game, Before I Wake, and numerous films for Hallmark Channel and Lifetime. She is currently the only female First Assistant Director working in the state of Alabama.
Drawing from nearly two decades of on-set experience, Ballard brings practical, professional knowledge to the classroom, helping actors understand not only performance for the camera, but also the expectations and workflow of a professional film set.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our community,” said Martha Wilkinson, Theatre Coordinator for Way Off Broadway Theatre. “Maggie brings a level of real-world experience that you simply don’t often have access to locally. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow your skills, this workshop offers valuable tools and insight into the film industry. She’s also incredibly funny and creates a supportive, encouraging environment for learning.”
Participants will explore techniques specific to on-camera acting, including subtle performance, working within the frame, and understanding the technical aspects of filming.
Registration is required. For more information or to sign up, visit prattvilleal.gov or call 334-595-0850.
