PSA from Prattville Police Department
Since the warrant/fines scams seem to be picking back up around the area, the PPD wants to send a quick reminder that the we (or any law enforcement agency) will NEVER require or demand any kind of payment over the phone for any fees, fines or otherwise. This includes payments through gift cards, prepaid debit cards, cryptocurrency, Cashapp, Venmo, Zelle, etc. Any and all payments required for any PD services are to be made IN PERSON AT THE PD by cash or check, never over the phone.
Any fines for warrants or court cases are to be made through sources directed by the City Municipal Court department, not through the PD. If you receive a phone call about any warrants, the only thing the PD or Court Department will do is advise you to turn yourself in (no money required).
If you receive any phone calls from individuals claiming to be from the PD and they demand or request payment over the phone or internet for any reason, IMMEDIATELY HANG UP (IT AIN’T US)! Even if the phone number looks like it’s from the PD, it can be spoofed to further the con. You can always call us right back to confirm that we did NOT call you.
As always, call us if you should need us.
