Love Across Infinite Possibilities: Way Off Broadway Theatre Presents Constellations

PRATTVILLE, Ala. — Way Off Broadway Theatre invites audiences to experience Constellations by Nick Payne, a moving and imaginative play that weaves together romance, science, and the infinitepossibilities of quantum theory. This limited engagement runs August 14 and 15 at 7 p.m., and August 16 at 2 p.m. at the Way Off Broadway Theatre.
Constellations explores the relationship between Marianne, a physicist, and Roland, a beekeeper, as their love story unfolds across multiple realities. With each moment branching into new possibilities, the play examines how even the smallest choices can shape the course of our lives.
The production stars Alex Rikerd and Josh Williams, and is directed by Val Winkelman, a Distinguished Research Professor at Auburn University at Montgomery and recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Gold Medallion. She has also served for more than 35 seasons with the Texas Shakespeare Festival and currently designs costumes for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
Because the play’s structure and themes are deeply rooted in concepts from quantum physics and the multiverse, the Saturday, August 15 performance will feature a special post-show talkback and Q&A led by Dr. Matthias Kaminski, Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics and Vice Chair for Communication & Outreach in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama. This conversation will give audiences a unique opportunity to better understand the scientific ideas that inspired the story through a relaxed and engaging discussion.
“This is one of those rare plays that is both intellectually fascinating and deeply human,” said Martha Wilkinson, Theatre Coordinator for Way Off Broadway Theatre. “At its heart, Constellations is about love; how we find it, how we lose it, and how our choices shape everything in between. I’m thrilled to have Alex, Josh, and Val bringing this story to life on our stage, and we’re especially excited to be able to offer this additional show to our season, giving our audience and community the chance to experience something truly unique.”
