Vandalism Costs Us All a Great Deal

April 8, 2016

It has been and continues to be our goal to provide the very best in amenities in our parks. It was just four years ago that Pratt Park was named "America's Favorite Park" in the Coca-Cola America is Your Park contest. We take great pride in the enhancements and hard work that has gone into our quality of life programs, especially over the past three years. With that said, we have had quite a bit of vandalism in our parks. Over time, the City of Prattville has spent thousands of dollars fixing what others have destroyed.

We have now installed security cameras in Newton Park and Upper Kingston Park. This should not only provide us a way to identify vandals, but should also make those who use the walking tracks feel safer at all times. Overlook Memorial Park, North Highland Park and Spinners Park will have cameras installed in them in the very near future. These cameras record any motion in the park, day or night. Installation for the two parks ran $6,000 and will be just a bit more for the three additional installs.

What can you do to help? If you see anything that doesn't look right or concerns you, say something. The E911 non-emergency line is 361-9911. We cannot be everywhere at once and we sincerely appreciate those who have already reported activity that has helped us address issues.
