The City of Prattville’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new Child’s Place Playground at Pratt Park, on Thursday, October 27th at 4pm. The new all-inclusive play area serves as the first Game Time “Stadium Playground” constructed in Alabama and replaces the previous aging structure and is more accessible for children with all abilities.

The new “Stadium Playground” offers a complete obstacle course experience in a compact design. The new playground features 10 unique challenges. The central play structure has an ADA accessible ramp that reaches the top of a 7’ deck height that ends at the Music Nest, a collection of several types of interactive musical elements. The surfacing at the main play area and preschool area is a universally accessible poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing that allows both children and adults access to the play equipment. Grand_opening.jpg

Everyone will enjoy integrated sail shades on the play structure, umbrella shades with benches for seating, and a large rectangular shade over the swings. There is also an entry archway replicated of the original design from 1996.

The children of Prattville will have their choice of multiple slides to keep them playing for hours. With two areas for different ages (2-5 and 5-12), parents can feel safe that the smaller children have their own area to enjoy, while the older kids enjoy their own play structure without worry. Placement of the equipment was carefully thought out, to minimize blind spots and maintain a line-of-sight throughout the entire playground.

A new restroom is also being constructed near the playground and will be complete by the end of November. For more information about Pratt Park, or any park in Prattville, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (334) 595-0800.
