Rain Garden Workshop Well Attended

The City of Prattville, Alabama River Clean Water Partnership, Autauga County Extension Office, and the Autauga County Master Gardeners hosted a Rain Garden Workshop on March 29, 2011 at Doster Community Center and the Community Garden. The workshop was delivered to a standing room only crowd of attendees.

The 1 hour of classroom time allowed attendees an opportunity to learn how to calculate the size of the garden, when to build the rain garden, where to place it, when to plant it, and how to evaluate soil.

The remainder of the workshop was held onsite as a demonstration by the Horticulture Division. The demonstration garden is located adjacent to the Community Garden (located adjacent to the Autauga-Prattville Public Library, 254 Doster Street). Horticulture’s presentation covered layout and planting of a rain garden suitable for treating the runoff generated by a residential driveway, roof or yard.

This workshop was generously funded by the Alabama River Clean Water Partnership. The City of Prattville thanks all involved in bringing this informative and beneficial educational opportunity to our community!
