Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre announces auditions for Hairspray! This musical recently wowed TV audiences and has delighted Broadway audiences for years. Now the local community has the opportunity to sing, dance and star in this musical theatre extravaganza. It is the biggest musical to be produced at the Way Off Broadway Theatre, and will be directed by Mary Katherine Moore, with Marilyn Swears as Music Director and Daniel Harms as Choreographer.

Hairspray! is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). The book is by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Music is by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The play is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters.

There will be 30 parts to be cast for ages 16 to 50. Auditions are open to anyone and we are actively seeking a multiracial cast. Auditions will be held at the Prattville Cultural Arts Center at 203 West 4th Street in Prattville on Sunday, April 23, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 25, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. You only need to attend one of these dates and may be asked to attend the callback date of Thursday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m.

For more information about the auditions and what you will need to do, you can visit wobt.prattvilleal.gov or visit the Way Off Broadway Theatre Facebook page and look for the event “Hairspray Just Got Real.”

Hairspray! will open on Thursday, July 13, with an opening night reception to follow the play. The production will run Friday-Sunday, July 14-16 and 21-23, Friday, July 28, and there will be two performances on Saturday, July 29.
