April 8, 2015

Over the past two years, we have done extensive analysis on the Sanitation Division of Public Works in an effort to make them more efficient and more effective. In analyzing the routes, it became apparent that as the City has grown, that growth has created a situation where the routes have become unbalanced. By instituting these scheduling changes, we will be optimizing the routes and the collection points will be spread equally amongst our garbage trucks.

The City will have three (3) household garbage zones:

  1. Routes west of Hwy 31 will be collected on Monday/Thursday.
  2. Routes east of Hwy 31 will be collected on Tuesday/Friday.
  3. Routes west of Hwy 82 will be collected on Wednesday. Business routes will continue to be collected on Wednesdays.

Scheduling adjustments will also apply to our residential yard trash trucks. Residential yard trash collection will be divided into five (5) zones. Each collection day, all residential yard trash trucks will be in a particular zone for maximum coverage and efficiency.

All pertinent information is posted on the Sanitation Route Changes page on this website and is also accessible by clicking on the garbage truck on our home page. Residents will be able to view maps, view a list of service days organized by street name, as well as more information about how they will receive notification if they are affected by the adjustments.

These changes will be effective (tentatively) on May 4th. Please follow the City website for updates. The routes will continue to be evaluated, as will service, as Sanitation becomes more efficient and more effective. We recognize that we must continue to evolve in order to provide the best possible service to our residents.

If you have any questions, please contact the Mayor’s office at (334) 595-0101 so that we may walk you through the changes and address any concerns you may have.
