Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre Announces 2018 Season

2018 will be an exciting year for theatregoers throughout the River Region with the lineup just announced by Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre.

The 2018 season will kick off with the premier of Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry, directed by Sam Wallace. Driving Miss Daisy will open on Thursday, February 8, and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through February 25. This Pulitzer Prize winning play is about the relationship of an elderly Jewish Southern woman in Atlanta and her African-American chauffer who puts up with the cantankerous Miss Daisy for 25 years, each learning special lessons from the other.

Coming in April, Brady Walker will direct Pulitzer Prize winning Crimes of the Heart, by Beth Henley. The play will open on Thursday, April 12, and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 29. This tragicomedy is a tale of three sisters who grew up in a dysfunctional family and reunite at Old Granddaddy’s home in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The sisters are forced to face memories of childhood and relatives and this play will have you laughing and crying as you recall memories of your own quirky relatives.

Get ready for the beautiful music of The Secret Garden, directed by Blair Dyson. The Secret Garden features music and lyrics by Marsha Norman, music by Lucy Simon, and is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, INC. The play is set in early 20th century England where a young girl, after living in India since birth, loses her parents to cholera and is sent to live with relatives in England. With the help of the gardener’s son, she brings new life to a neglected garden and to her sickly cousin and uncle.

Blithe Spirit, by famous playwright and actor Noël Coward, will be directed by Matthew Givens and is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, INC. Blithe Spirit will open on Thursday, September 20, and run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 7. In this comic play, a successful novelist, in an attempt to learn about the occult for his next novel, calls on an eccentric clairvoyant who inadvertently summons his first wife who has died. A series of comic missteps will keep you laughing through this old favorite.

2017 was a wonderful season with record crowds in the Way Off Broadway Theatre and we are looking forward to another successful season in 2018. For more information, contact the Special Events Office at 334-595-0854 or visit
