September 10, 2012

In an effort to contribute to finding a cure for breast cancer, the Prattville Fire Department is selling "Firefighters for a cure" t-shirts. The shirts are $12 each. Each shirt costs PFD $6 and the remaining $6 is going directly to the Joy to Life Foundation.

Last year, PFD raised $1,750 for Joy to Life, effectively funding nearly 18 mammograms. PFD is working to surpass that goal this year.

You may purchase/pick up shirts beginning September 14th...they will be available at the Prattville Fire Department administrative office at 102 W. Main Street. Cash or check will be accepted forms of payment. Please make checks payable to the City of Prattville.

The Joy to Life Foundation is a non-profit organization providing free mammograms for medically underserved women less than 50 years of age in 29 counties in South Central Alabama. Joy to Life partners with the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, a program of the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) that provides breast and cervical cancer screenings for women who meet the eligibility guidelines.

"We're selling these t-shirts just in time for the City's annual Think Pink event on October 12th," said Lt. Travis Rodie. "Even if you aren't coming to that important event, consider purchasing a shirt to support Joy to Life and the important work they do in our region."
