Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. will join members of the Autauga County Heritage Association to celebrate Daniel Pratt’s 212th birthday by placing a wreath on his grave. Mr. Pratt, born on July 20, 1799, and known as “Alabama’s First Industrialist”, founded Prattville in 1839. Descendants of the Pratt family traditionally attend this annual event at the family cemetery, just off Gin Shop Hill overlooking the buildings which housed Pratt’s manufacturing enterprises.

After the wreath laying ceremony, the Heritage Association will host a “Founder’s Day Reception” at the Prattaugan Museum-Heritage Center, 102 East Main Street, across from Prattville City Hall. Cake and refreshments will be served. For the first time available for sale will be 2 (two) new DVDs. One, Preservation of a Dream, history of the founding of Prattville, second video available is a double DVD of the Braxton Schuffert interview and concert. Both events are free and open to the public.

“I encourage residents to join me at Mr. Pratt’s gravesite and the reception to celebrate his birth. It is fitting that we, as a community, gather to remember and honor our founder,” Mayor Gillespie emphasized.
