Citing an Ice Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service for 6:00 p.m. Sunday, through 6:00 p.m. Monday, Prattville Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. has announced that all City of Prattville offices will be closed Monday, January 10, 2011. There will be NO garbage or trash collection Monday. Regular pick-up is scheduled to resume on Tuesday.

“With the probability of ¼” to ½” of ice blanketing our city overnight, it is vitally important for residents to take this threat of severe weather serious,” said the Mayor. “Freezing rain and ice over an extended period has the potential to cause power outages, disrupt communication, and make all roads unsafe and impassible,” he continued. “Our public safety and public works employees are prepared, and will be staging at locations throughout our city, however with icy roadways, their movement will be restricted as well. I urge all residents to prepare and address special individual needs today, and stay off of the roadways on Monday,” said Byard.

The Prattville City Council will meet in a special meeting this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers to adopt an emergency declaration, in the event that it is needed.
