City to Observe Arbor Day on February 18th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2017
The City of Prattville will observe Arbor Day on Saturday, February 18th at the Doster Community Center from 8:30-11am.
Mayor Gillespie will present the Arbor Day Proclamation to the Autauga Forestry & Wildlife Stewardship. The Alabama Forestry Commission, White City Nursery and Alabama Power will provide seedlings for distribution to the public. Members of the Autauga County Master Gardeners Association, along with Alabama Power staff, will distribute the trees. Available species include: Bald Cypress, Crepe Myrtle (Crape), Riverbirch, Redbud, Shumard Oak, Pecan, Dogwood, Pignut Hickory, Live Oak, Swamp Chestnut Oak, and Wax Myrtle.
This year’s observance will also include a tree planting at Pratt Park to replace the tree they lost near the pavilion and bridge. We want to thank Autauga Forestry & Wildlife Stewardship Council for coordinating the location, receipt and placement of the tree and Plantation Tree Farm for supplying the tree. We look forward to this event and hope that you will all join us for the ceremony and also to collect some free trees to plant yourself!
The Members of the Autauga County Master Gardeners Association will be holding a class on how to properly maintain your Crepe (Crape) Myrtles and other pruning pointers. Please join them for this informative and timely workshop!
