There will be lots to do over the next couple of months in the City of Prattville. The City has planned several events for the months of June, July and August as a part of "Prattville's Free Family Fun Summer", including movies, parades and a street party.

"This summer's Free Family Fun events are a great way for citizens to connect with family and friends. The free admission is great during these tough economic times," said Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. "We're pleased to offer outdoor movies during the month of June, our Independence Day Celebration in July, and conclude with our Back to School Concert featuring the Sweet Young 'Uns in August."

June- Plan to bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets and get ready for Free Movies under the Stars! The movies will be shown on a 30 ft. inflatable movie screen at the Cooters Pond Park in Prattville, on Friday, June 12th and Friday June 26th. The movies will begin at dark. Admission is free to the public. We will have pizza, popcorn, snow cones and more. On June 12th we will be showing Paul Blart: Mall Cop. When a shopping mall is overtaken by a gang of organized crooks, it's up to the mild-mannered security guard to save the day is this 2009 comedy.

The Tale of Despereaux will be shown on June 26th. This animated movie tells the tale of three unlikely heroes - a misfit mouse who prefers reading books to eating them, an unhappy rat who schemes to leave the darkness of the dungeon, and a bumbling servant girl with cauliflower ears - whose fates are intertwined with that of the castle's princess.

July-The annual 4th of July Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Autauga County Courthouse and ends at Stanley-Jensen Stadium. Float participants are encouraged to decorate their entries in this year's theme- "Happy Birthday America."

Children on bikes, tricycles and scooters are also invited to participate in this family-fun parade. Entry forms can be found on our Independence Event page. There is no registration fee to enter floats in the parade, but space is limited.

The Annual Lion's Club Bar-B-Q and Camp Stew Sale will take place at Pratt Park at 10:00 a.m., as well as, the annual "Cardboard Boat Races," at the city pool. The entry fee is $5.00 per boat and pre-registration is required. For more information, call Leisure Services at 334-361-3640.

And to wrap up the fun-filled day, the fireworks event begins at Stanley-Jensen Stadium at 6:00 p.m. There will be live entertainment and food vendors. Fireworks will begin at dark. Admission is FREE. NO pets allowed on the field.

August- The City is proud to sponsor its first annual Back to School Street Dance on Friday, August 7th from 7-10pm. It will be held along the Creekwalk behind City Hall and serve as the last big party before school starts. There will be food vendors on hand and live entertainment provided by The Sweet Young 'Uns. Admission is free.

"Everyone is focusing on 'Staycations' lately but sometimes there is not anything fun and exciting going on for families to do. These events will give everyone the opportunity to participate," said Kellie Cook, Special Events Director for the City of Prattville. They are fun for the entire family, but best of all they are free. For more information on these events, please call the City of Prattville's Special Events Office, at (334) 358-0297.
