The City of Prattville has announced that this year’s Christmas tree lighting will be held on Thursday, December 1st, beginning at 5 p.m., in front of City Hall. In addition to the tree lighting, there will be a “Winter Wonderland” at Heritage Park. Santa Claus will make a special appearance with his elves and life-size sleigh. The fountain will be transformed into a “Candy Cane” fountain with candy canes available for the children. Shoppers can also take advantage of the holiday shopping hours at the downtown merchants.

There will be performances by the Centre for the Performing Arts, Mann Dance, CJ’s Dance Studio, as well as the Prattville Pops and the Prattville Community Chorus. The public is invited to attend this free, holiday event.

The annual Christmas parade will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3rd. This year’s theme is “Cooking up a Christmas to Remember,” and serves as a kickoff for the 2012 Year of Food. Parade participants are encouraged to decorate their entries in keeping with the theme. The parade route will begin and end at the Autauga County Courthouse.

This year, the Christmas parade Grand Marshal will be decided on by nominations from residents for someone who goes above and beyond and deserves special recognition for all they do in Prattville.

Applications for this year’s parade are available on the event page. The fee is $30 per entry with a business having no more than two entries. Deadline for applications is Friday, November 25th. For more information, call the Special Events Office at 358-0297.
