"America's Favorite Park" - Pratt Park - to Receive Grants from Coca-Cola & ADEM to Install Long-Awaited Splash Pad

This summer, people from across the country cast votes for their favorite park to win big in the Coca-Cola America Is Your Park campaign. At the end of the heated, six-week contest, Prattville's beloved Pratt Park beat out more than 16,000 others to become "America's Favorite Park." In addition to taking home top honors, Pratt Park won a $100,000 recreation grant from the Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative. The grant, being presented in a ceremony on September 24, will be used to install a splash pad where children and families can have active, outdoor fun. Additionally, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management will announce a $42,000 grant to build the splash pad surface out of recycled tire beading.

In its third year, the spirited competition among national, state and local parks sparked community support with park events, vote-a-thons and more. Through these efforts, supporters helped Pratt Park receive more than 28 million votes online and via foursquare.

The check presentation will take place on Monday, September 24 at 10 a.m. at Pratt Park, 460 Doster Road, Prattville, Alabama.

The Prattville community, park officials, local dignitaries and Coca-Cola representatives will be onsite and available for interviews and photo opportunities. Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie, Coca-Cola Refreshment Alabama Market Unit VP Melanie Jones and Phil Davis, ADEM Land Division Chief are slated to speak at the event.

Pratt Park is one of the busiest parks in Prattville, Ala. It features "A Child's Place" playground, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a pond for fishing and remote-controlled boating, an amphitheater for concerts, and a stadium for sporting events. Pratt Park, which runs alongside Autauga Creek, serves as the site of the annual July 4th BBQ, fireworks and cardboard boat races.

The Coca-Cola Recycling Educational Vehicle (REV) will be on site to entertain and educate park-goers about the good things that happen when used beverage containers are recycled. Stop by the REV to enjoy informative videos, interactive displays, games, contests and prizes made from recycled PET plastic bottles.

For more than 40 years, Coca-Cola has supported efforts to maintain and rebuild parks across the nation. The America Is Your Park campaign was developed to award grants that help restore, rebuild or enhance activity areas in parks where people can play and be active.
