A Thanksgiving Message from Mayor Gillespie

November 22, 2011

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect, a time to be grateful for all that we have been given over the past year.

As we approach this wonderful holiday that originated here in America, I want to share my personal Thanksgiving with you.

I have been blessed with the most wonderful family a man could ask for. My wife is very understanding of me and only God knows why. My two children have given me joy my entire life and I can't ask for more.* (*A personal note to my children, I would like some grandchildren one day.)

Traditionally, Thanksgiving, or Harvest Fest, is about what you have harvested or been blessed with over the previous season or year.

On this Thanksgiving, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of you for your support and encouragement as we have worked diligently to move our city forward. While we still have a long way to go, we have made significant progress in the past 10 months. The city has been positively affected by those of you who have come down to City Hall to encourage, suggest ideas, and participate at City Council meetings. We are blessed to be a community where so many military members choose to live and contribute so much. We are also blessed to have dedicated employees who are loyal to this city and have taken on more responsibilities and done more with less consistently over the past year. Without the contributions of each and every one of you, we would not have come so far in so short a time.

This community has such a blend of people, ideas and willingness to give that it makes me proud to say that I'm from Prattville. I've been to other cities that have had the buildings, but didn't have the charm of my town. The fellowship that I feel from our military personnel stationed here cannot be put to words.

Please join me in praying for our troops in harms way. I thank God for all of you and I wish for you and yours the most joyous of Thanksgivings.

P.S. I want to personally invite each of you to join me at our Annual Christmas events. The Christmas Tree Lighting begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 1st at City Hall. We have a beautiful, donated tree that will be fully decorated and waiting for us to flip the lights on after the talented singers and dancers finish performing. The Christmas Parade will commence at 4:30 p.m. and run through downtown on Saturday, December 3rd. Please help us welcome Santa to Prattville!
